Here's a 1988 clip showing San Francisco's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on a busy weekday. The DMV is located at 1377 Fell Street near Haight-Ashbury.

A line of people wait infront of a desk where a sign titled “DRIVERS LICENCES” hangs above. Large square-shaped fluorescent lights line the ceiling, and rows of DMV employee desks stretch backwards.

At a long desk aligned with a bright pink brick wall, a man in a blue blazer fills out a paper using a wall-mounted pen. A woman in a brown blazer and skirt set and a young man in a blue-collared shirt do the same. They peruse through driving handbooks.

A shot faces the backs of those waiting at the “DRIVERS LICENCES” window. A man in a red sweater with a long braid flips through yellow paperwork.

A wide shot shows a long line of people waiting for various windows at the DMV. A man in a white shirt frustratedly discusses something with the clerk at the “WRITTEN TEST CORRECTIONS” window.

A man in a blue work shirt engraved with his name fills out a test at an individual desk. A wide shot shows various people who appear to be filling out tests and/or forms in a large room.

A man in a teal Hawaiian-style shirt holds his passport as he fills out three forms. A black man with an American flag bandana and many bracelets looks down at a test.

A wideshot shows the line outside of the “DUPLICATE DRIVER'S LICENSE IDENTIFICATION” window. A group of five old ladies with similar gray hairdos waits in line.

A front-facing close-up highlights the DMV’s queue. A plus-size man with large side burns and a goatee wearing a red sweater, brown hat, and brown Ben Davis slacks talks with a man with a large mustache in a blue and white sweater.

Another group of DMV attendees waits in various 1980s outfits. A woman with a blonde bob, feathered bangs, a blue sweatshirt, layered gold necklaces, and crossed arms waits frustratedly and stares into the camera.

At a customer service window numbered “13”, a female DMV clerk with blonde hair, bangs, and a black sweater receives a cash payment from a customer and makes an entry into her computer. Two male DMV workers on phone calls are seen in the background.

A close-up of a man’s hands as he adjusts and fills out two paper cards on a wooden desk. The camera zooms out to show that he is a blonde, middle-aged man, wearing a brown jacket. The clerk on the opposing side reaches for a card.

A yellow sign hanging from the ceiling is titled “DRIVERS LICENSES,” while “RENEWAL”, “ORIGINAL,” and “NAME CHANGE” are in bullet points below.

A wide shot from behind the “DRIVERS LICENCES” window shows a clerk taking a license from an older woman standing at the window. A queue of people is lined up behind her.

The clerk then inspects the licence and types information into his computer. He is a middle-aged man with black hair and a mustache wearing a peach-striped button-up shirt. He grabs a small DMV booklet and flips through it.

A female photographer wearing a bright red sweater takes a license photo for a man wearing a striped gray collared shirt with a matching brown jacket and pants set. He stands against a green backdrop and smiles fully as the camera flashes. The photographer then removes the photo, and the man walks towards the desk. Others stand nearby waiting for their opportunity.

A sign hanging from the ceiling reads, “DMV,” “REPORT HERE FOR DRIVE TEST” with white lettering on a brown background.

The camera then zooms out from the sign to show a young man with a brown mullet wearing sunglasses, a navy jacket, and a red and blue shirt. He speaks with the male clerk sitting at the window who wears glasses and a bright green shirt. The clerk directs the young man by pointing with his pencil.

A medium shot shows a black male clerk in a gray striped sweater typing information into a computer as a customer waits.
