In the next scene, footage of the fascist Franco regime overthrowing Madrid during the Spanish Civil War of 1936 is shown. Madrid is in ruins and the citizens have to ration food and supplies. From the narrator's tone he seems to be pro-Franco, even though Franco was allied with the Nazis and Italians. America hadn't joined WWII until 1941.
