Here’s a clip showing three prominent events from 1932: the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the World Series between the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees, and two trains crashing into each other at the Iowa State Fair. A fourth, minor event is two US politicians, Representative Garner and Vice President Curtis, talking about the upcoming presidential election.
Clip begins with a row of men playing dramatic music using long trumpet-like instruments at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The instruments are likely salpinges or salpinxes.
A stadium crowd cheers. Track runners sprint and jump over hurdles. Race cars dash around a race track. One of the cars skids, spins and hits a barrier along the track. Bicyclists speed along a road.
We then see scenes at the World Series game between the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees. A Cubs pitcher hurls the ball to Yankees batter Babe Ruth. Ruth seems to hit a home run, and him and another Yankee round the bases make it to the home plate. The crowd stands and cheers.
U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives John Nance Garner and Vice President Charles Curtis are both in the baseball stands. One jokingly predicts who will win the "game" between the Republicans and Democrats, probably referring to the upcoming presidential elections. They laugh and shake hands. Baseball players are seen on the field.
At the Iowa State Fair, two locomotives collide. A steam whistle on a train is blowing. The train’s wheels are picking up speed. A smoke-billowing train moves quickly toward camera. One train labeled “Roosevelt" and another labeled “Hoover” tear along tracks toward each other. The trains smash into each other spectacularly, exploding in a large ball of fire and smoke. What remains of both trains, scattered across a field, lie in flames.
