Video opens with title card: “Desert People: Comparative Cultures” text over world map with The Sahara and the Great Indian Desert labeled. Then silhouette of Asia with The Great Indian Desert labeled. Clips of the Rajputs, cultivators of the Great Indian Desert, follow. Shot of a flat desert area, barren except some bush-like plants in the distance. Camera pulls back to reveal several barefoot men in white short sleeves, shorts and turbans next to huge hole they’ve dug in the ground. A camel is harnessed to a cart that has a high mound of dirt clumps piled on it. A man leads the camel away. The remaining men stand in the hole and use hoes to break up the dirt along the hole’s perimeter. They use bowls or their hands to carry dirt clumps from the hole and dump them onto another cart. Once this cart is full, two men lead the camel harnessed to it off.
