Clips of the Rajputs, cultivators of the Great Indian Desert. A man in white clothes and a turban approaches a cart that has dirt clumps piled on it. He puts a few of the dirt clumps in a shallow bowl, carries the bowl on his head to a trench and dumps the dirt clumps into the trench. (The trench may be part of their irrigation system. Perhaps the fresh dirt adds nutrients to the water.) Shot of man standing in shallow trench of water near where well water first gets dumped into irrigation system. He drops a few clumps of dirt into the water and mixes it in with his feet. Shot of a trench with gently flowing water. Further down steam, the trench feeds water to a network of much smaller channels that spread through a field of grass and trees. Women in a soggy part of the field seem to be doing maintenance or repair work on some of the channels.
