1963
Here’s an 8mm home movie from 1963 that's focused on road trip through New Mexico, heading westward.
After a night shot of a street sign, a man stands next to a “New Mexico, Land of Enchantment” sign during the day.
We then see b-roll of a mostly empty New Mexico town. A street is littered with trash. White vendor stands are vacant. A girl in a dress walks on a sidewalk; behind her in the distance stands a church, which appears to be the San Felipe de Neri Church in Old Town Albuquerque.
From a moving car, a roadside sign reads, “RIO GRANDE” and “US 66,” i.e. Route 66.
After crossing a bridge, the car drives through New Mexico’s vast, barren desert landscapes. We see the road ahead and the passing desert scenery of empty fields, weeds, rock, olive-green trees, and occasional shacks beside parked cars.
