Here’s a 1970s clip focused on people riding electric wheelchairs through the streets of Berkeley, California. There are also exterior shots of the Center for Independent Living (CIL), which is also in Berkeley; established in 1972, CIL is an advocacy and support organization for the disabled in Northern California.

Clip begins with a black man driving his wheelchair down a sidewalk. Other pedestrians are present. The back of his wheelchair reads “BEWARE OF HOTWHEELS.”

A sign reads “CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING” on the side of a white building, presumably the HQ for CIL. A man drives his wheelchair up the ramp of CIL. Another disabled person in a wheelchair, though wearing a bright red dress, drives her wheelchair up the same ramp; she is accompanied by a woman, perhaps a colleague.

Two men drive their wheelchairs across a 4-lane street. An A-shaped house and red VW van appear in the background. A city bus passes the camera; an advertisement on the bus reads “PALL MALL LIGHT 100’s.” Both men drive up the cuts in a sidewalk and enter the A-shaped house just mentioned; a sign on the front of the A-shaped house reads “HOUSE OF PANCAKES.”
