Here’s a clip showing the opening of an American, indoor shopping mall on a busy day during the 1960s.
Clip begins with a man cutting a ribbon with large scissors, or garden shears. Lots of people standing near look on and clap in celebration of the occasion.
Teens walk through the mall. In the background, signs for Hamilton National Bank and Peter’s Pet Shop are visible.
A woman hands out fliers next to a health exhibit. A nearby sign reads, “Public Health Peep Show,” which seems to be a part of this health exhibit, a kind of campaign to inform the public.
Several people hold onto helium-filled balloons. A few of these balloons have flown up to the ceiling.
Signs are also seen for Amy Lester Fabrics as well as Sears, a once-popular department store chain.
