Here's 16mm home movie footage of a toddler wandering around his family's estate while being watched by the family's African-American house maid. 

The maid, who wears a white and blue uniform, keeps a noticeable distance between herself and the boy so as to let him do as he pleases -- and perhaps to stay out of the way of the camera. 

The toddler looks at things and walks in various directions. The boy eventually plays with his toy lawnmower. And yet he appears to be unable to focus on any one thing, enthralled by the camera and the camera person and the things around him. The world is vying for his attention.
