The first clip is from Frank Capra's cartoon "Private Snafu." The character Private Snafu is unprepared to defend against the surprise arrival of the German military. As a bomb is dropped from a German bomber plane, Private Snafu quickly digs a hole in the ground to hide but is found and killed. He then wakes up from his bed and realizes it was all a dream. In the next newsreel, dozens of planes are seen at Guadalcanal military airfield in the Solomon Islands. American military forces load the planes with bombs.
