Here's a 1970s public service announcement (PSA) from the New York City Department of Health about rats and the importance of using garbage cans to keep rats at bay.

Begins with shot of an apartment building from the outside. Camera pans down past lit-up apartment windows, sounds of a baby, a television, and people talking.

Music swells as camera focuses on a rat outside an apartment building.

Shots of a rat climbing through holes and up through the walls of an apartment building.

Shots of a rat emerging from a hole in a wall and entering a paper bag of garbage as voice-over says: "An apartment wall won't stop a hungry rat looking for garbage."

Shot of garbage can against white background with hand putting trash in can. CU of inside of trash can.

Voiceover says: "But a garbage can will. Your best defense against rats is a garbage can.., with the lid on." Voice-over says: "Starve a rat today," as words appear across screen in black bold letters.
