In this clip, from a silent film telling the story of the Puritans, Thomas Morton is captured from his settlement in Merrymount and taken to Charlestown. He is to be sent to England, and some of the settlers in Charlestown decide that life is too hard in America and want to return to England.Pilgrims from Merrymount are overtaken by the ones from Charlestown, and Thomas Morton is captured. Morton is banished to England, and the clip opens back in front of Governor Winthrop’s house. Men speak in front of the house, and Morton is seen being taken out of some stocks. In LS he is taken away. A group of pilgrims informs Governor Winthrop that they are going to go back to England because times are too hard. Winthop indicates that they were going to move up to Boston soon where conditions are better, but the people still want to leave.
