Here's a clip from October 1987 showing part of a press conference held by San Francisco 49er offensive linebacker Keith Fahnhorst (#71), answering questions about the recently-ended NFL player strike and what comes next. At the time, Fahnhorst was the 49ers' player rep and a key union voice. This is clip 2 of 2. 

The clip begins with Fahnhorst saying that the owners of the 49ers who are on the NFL Management Council appear to want to rub the players’ faces in it, where "it" is the failure of the players' strike. Says that he knows owner Eddy DeBartolo is not a part of this group, and that other owners are not a part of this group.

Fahnhorst says that the players expect to get paid no later than the next game -- if they report for work next week.

Fahnhorst doesn’t think the players accomplished anything by their strike. He says that, in being on strike, they lost a lot of money.

Fahnhorst says that he doesn’t know if management will be releasing replacement (“scab”) players if the players on the standard roster report to work today.

He says that a number of legal questions will probably have to be addressed in court if they are addressed at all. One such question is, if players report for work today and they are not allowed to work today, then is this a breach of contract, allowing the players to then work as free agents? He doesn’t know the answer to this question and others.

Fahnhorst says he didn’t anticipate the response he and the players got from management. He also doesn’t think anyone else anticipated the response that was given to the players by management.

Lastly, Fahnhorst says he has a meeting with the remaining players. He also mentions that head coach Bill Walsh essentially had his hands tied and was unable to help the players much during the contract dispute.
