Here's a clip from the 1970s showing a man known as the "human jukebox," who played music on his trumpet for money, relying on passersby for their donations.
The clip begins with the so-called human jukebox (or “artist”) playing his trumpet to a small crowd of people at his booth, set up on the Embarcadero of San Francisco.
The artist sets up his booth using rope and wood poles.
Pedestrians look at the artist and his booth with curiosity, unease, and skepticism.
On the sides of the artist’s booth, it reads: “AUTOMATIC HUMAN JUKEBOX,” “INSERT COIN,” “ANY AMOUNT,” and “TUNE SELECT.” An open wooden box outside of the artist’s booth reads, “PHOTO TAX DEFENSE FUND.”
The remainder of the clip shows the artist either assembling or disassembling his booth as people nearby watch.
