Here’s a B&W clip from the 1940s that captures the American south from a moving car. There’s also a shot of a southern family posing for the camera.
Begins with a driving POV down an isolated road. Big trees stand in the distance and line the two-way road. The car’s windshield wipers are visible. Passing vegetation is seen from the passenger’s window.
The POV then changes to a dirt road. There is less trees than the previous scene and more open land. A home passes by, seen from the passenger’s window.
Three middle-aged sisters pose for the camera, hugging each other, joyful and smiling. Then two couples and, separately, a homely-looking teen-aged girl pose for the camera. Two cars are parked nearby.
The clip continues with more POV driving. The road stretches to as far as the eye can see. At times the road is hilly. Several cars and one semi truck drive past the camera. Isolated stores and homes are seen on the roadside.
