Raw footage of an Anti-NAFTA protest in California, likely during the 1990s in the Silicon Valley area.

"NAFTA" stands for the North American Free Trade Agreement; the agreement reduced trade barriers between the US, Mexico, and Canada, and had the effect of eliminating American jobs.

NAFTA also likely made Americans resent their Canadian and Mexican counterparts, cut the United States' Gross Domestic Product, and left the average American with less spending power and a more negative outlook on life -- among other things.

Rally signs seen include:

  • "Dear Mr. President: Don't Send my Job to Mexico," a message endorsed by the AFL-CIO;
  • "Graveyard of Lost Jobs," with mock tombstones listing the number of jobs lost by specific California companies like Diamond Peanuts, Bugle Boy, U.S. Elevator, Green Giant, Schlage Lock, Eastman Kodak, Mattel Toys, Conner Peripherals, and others; and
  • "$4 a Day? No Way!"
