When pint-sized dancers are encouraged to observe and mimic the actions of household appliances, the results are more than any of us could have hoped for. We can never know how many youngsters took the inspiration of this film into intimate performances spaces in the 1980's and 90's. 

Creative Body Movement: Transportation (1969, color, 11 min.)
The kids from Perc, Pop, Sprinkle are back . . . and this time they’re whipping themselves into a fitness frenzy as boats, airplanes and trains. Is it some sort of torture? Their over enthusiastic gym teacher gives this gem the feel of a The 5,000 Fingers of Dr.T for P.E. world. The deliciously awkward drawbridge segment is a must see!

Speedball for Girls (B+W, 1948, 10 min)

OK, so “speedball” never really took off half a century ago. Here’s your chance to be the retro-trendsetter you always wanted to be! Learn the basics of this fun, fast-paced game that combines soccer, basketball and football in one. “What’s that you’re playing?,” they’ll say. And you can answer: “Why, Speedball of course.” Not to be confused with the “speedball” mix of cocaine and heroin!.

The Sofia Girls (B+W, 1950s)


This film showcases an extended performance by an all-female team of rhythmic gymnasts from Sweden, whose hypnotizing feats are impossibly synchronized. The precise movements of the girls create clean-cut lines of motion, generating spectacular images within the frame. However, such exercises had aims beyond the aesthetic, as schools incorporated gymnastics into their curriculums as an attempt to cultivate a united regime of physical and mental hygiene.

Over the course of this fitness primer, an overweight, middle-aged man and his overweight son gradually learn that improper diet, heavy smoking, and lack of exercise greatly diminish one's sense of well-being and can seriously endanger one's life. They come to recognize the importance of good health and begin a pattern of life that will achieve it, replacing their bad habits with healthy habits.

Jack LaLanne’s exercise show, mostly floor exercises led by Jack, later joined by two large white dogs, pushes the sale of Glamour Stretchers

Johnny Carson w/ Debbie Drake


Carson introduces Drake, then gets up, helps her take her coat off and takes his own jacket off. She has on a one-piece leotard or something. They go over to the stage, take their shoes off and sit down on a yoga mat. She shows him some moves. Lots of sexual innuendo jokes. Carson does a promo for Holiday Inn on the floor.
