Here’s footage from 1932 showing the “hunger marches” in Washington D.C. and the concurrent demonstrations by the “Bonus Army" (also called the "Bonus Expeditionary Force"), i.e. World War I veterans who were demanding early cash payment of their deferred service bonuses (originally due in 1945). 

The clip begins with the U.S. Capitol building’s dome. An airship (blimp) floats in the sky behind it. 

We see crowds participating in a hunger march. A crowd stands in front of the Capitol, others march in front of it and in nearby streets, holding signs and singing. 

In the same march, we see the Bonus Army, i.e. WWI veterans, along with their families and affiliated groups. 

Tanks and troops on horses arrive to disperse and send home those marching and the encamped Bonus Army. 

Troops wearing gas masks enter (adamsite gas was used to prevent rioting). The Bonus Army’s wooden encampment shacks are set on fire. 

In the far distance, we see the dome of the U.S. Capitol.
