1970s
Clip here is a 1970s super 8 home movie showing the Montana cemetery where the dead of the “Battle of the Little Bighorn" are buried. The battle was on June 25–26, 1876.
We see tombstones on a hill surrounded by a low, metal fence. One of the tombstones is for Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer, who led the 7th Cavalry against a large encampment of Lakota Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho under leaders like Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse.
A person at the top of the hill waves to the camera. The camera zooms in to the person and then pans across the cemetery, settling on the setting sun.
The clip’s final shot is of a tombstone that reads:
“U.S. SOLDIER
7TH CAVALRY
FELL HERE
JUNE 25 1876.”
Yellow grass and/or weeds and bushes surround the tombstone.
