An older man in a chef’s hat and apron, tends to a barbeque grill (bbq) at a typical family picnic/bbq. He smokes a pipe, grills hamburgers and steaks and adds more coal and hickory chips to the fire as a woman sets the picnic table. A young boy asks his grandpa/ grandfather if he can have a roasted marshmallow, but is refused. The family gathers at the picnic table under some trees and await the arrival of more family. A blue car drives up and two women in typical 1950’s style fashion exit, surprised to see the picnic. The women laugh and joke about how silly the grandpa looks in his chef’s outfit. The family gathers around and grandpa leads them all in singing Happy Birthday to “Mother”. She is happy and teases grandpa for having actually remembered her birthday for once, a woman brings out some steaks for the grill. Everyone is cheerful and happy, cheesy conversation, Grandpa asks everyone how they like their steaks cooked and they all chime in requests: medium-well, rare, well-done, etc. The man hands out steak and food to the family’s plates, his grandson complains that his “wieners are burned,” a woman gives him “two new wieners.” The family gathers around the table and makes typical dinnertime/cheesy conversation, typical gender stereotypes are played up (surprise at grandpa’s ability to cook, grandpa’s complaining about doing his wife’s dishes).
