Kiko tires out and falls asleep against the trunk of a tree. The bear cubs run away while Kiko is asleep and are chased into a lake by three hounds. A turtle carries them safely across the water, but the dogs and their owner are still hot on their trail. The bears disguise themselves as a tree and elude the dogs momentarily, but are then chased up a real tree . The hunter shoots off the top of the tree they are hiding in.
