Here's a 1970s Sanyo Television commercial. Shows chimpanzees frolicking around a television set, hooting and licking the screen when a banana appears. 

The commercial is a fitting example of the "Allegory of the Cave" by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato and found in his dialogue The Republic.
